PARKING patrols are being stepped up in Horsham’s East Street in a bid to reduce traffic and parking infringements.

Horsham District Council (HDC) will issue penalty charge notices of up to £70 to vehicles that do not comply.

This may be increased if not paid within 28 days, or reduced by fifty per cent if paid within 14 days.

A spokesperson for HDC said: “Bays are marked out to show where active loading and unloading may take place as well as clearly marked disabled parking bays indicating where Blue Badge holders may park.

“Apart from this, there is no through access for motor vehicles of any type. This restriction is enforceable by Sussex Police.

“Car parking for East Street is available in Swan Walk, Denne Road and The Forum car parks.

“On street alternatives include pay and display parking in Denne Road, Denne Parade, Springfield Road, London Road and The Bishopric.

“Blue Badge holders are able to use the Carfax disabled parking bays, and can also park on single or double yellow lines for up to three hours as long as they do not cause an obstruction.”

The warning comes just weeks after East Street traders signed up to a voluntary code of conduct to limit deliveries to outside peak pedestrian times.

HDC urge East Street businesses and members of the public to report any parking infringements on 01403 230721.
