Wisborough Green suffered an opening-day defeat in a low-scoring game in Division 4 at Stirlands.
Green, who were put into bat first, stumbled along to 105 in 31 overs in the three-wicket loss.
They never full recovered from being reduced to 4-3 despite a low-order 38 from Dave Pleasants, 22 from Greg Marshall and ten from Jon Farmer.
Despite their early wicket of Adam Norris by Ben Thatcher (3-38) fellow opener Tim Robinson made 28 to get the hosts to 39-2.
From there, Ajinkya Deshpande’s unbeaten 35 was enough to take them over the line with 108-7 in the 28th over, despite a late three wickets from Farmer (3-8).
Wisborough captain Jamie Self said: “It was great to get the league cricket season back underway after what seemed to be a long winter. Unfortunately, we weren’t at our best with the bat this weekend and that has been the decisive factor here.
I couldn’t have asked for anymore from the lads in the bowling performance; we can take a lot of positives from that part of the game and you never know, on another day some of the miscues may have gone to hand and a different story may have ensued.
“However, 105 was always going to be a tough score to defend and so it proved to be.
“We are certainly looking forward and the next test will be next weekend when we host Rye (on Saturday).”
