A dozen Henfield residents are receiving discounted exercise sessions at their local leisure centre, thanks to a £888 grant.

The grant has come from Horsham District Health and Wellbeing Partnership.

Henfield Sports and Leisure Centre is running a ‘Boot Camp’ fitness course for 12 selected patients referred from Henfield Medical Centre, which was a partner in the funding application.

The patients are receiving a personal exercise programme to follow with qualified centre staff, and at the end of the course will be fully subsidised to join the gym, come to other classes and play racket sports for three months.

Leisure centre manager Simon Thompson said: “The aim of this partnership project is to help people make small changes to their lifestyles, become more active and see the big difference taking regular exercise makes.”

Healthcare assistant Angela Mariner added: “This is a great scheme. These patients are already feeling the benefit of the boot camp and hopefully this will be a gateway to a happier and healthier future for all of them. Well done Team Henfield!”

Henfield Leisure Centre is a registered charity and provides activities for all ages and abilities from under fives to 80 plus.

The centre works closely with local schools and medical centres and also runs a successful GP referral scheme, where doctors can refer patients to the centre for exercise, to help them improve their lifestyles.

Horsham District Council also runs the Horsham District Wellbeing Hub, for free, impartial advice and signposting on a range of health and wellbeing issues.

A wellbeing advisor will be at Henfield Leisure Centre at Kingsfield Field, Northcroft,on Friday August 31, offering free advice and tips, and booking confidential follow-up appointments if required.

The centre has a brand new fitness suite and provides activities for all ages from under fives to over 80s. These range from circuit training to badminton and from aerobics to dance classes.
