Children in Billingshurst were taught words of wisdom in a dictionary presentation from the local Rotary Club.
On Wednesday five Rotarians from the Rotary Club of Billinghurst visited Billinghurst Junior School with their newly elected president, Patrick Perks, to present to the 67 children of year six with an illustrated Dictionary 4 Life.
Patrick explained briefly what the Rotary Club did for the local community. He also told pupils that moving up to the Weald School in September was going to be a big step and encouraged them to use their new dictionaries instead of using ‘Spell-check’ on their computers.
Their year leader teacher, Tracey Mackenzie, said: “Its times like this I get quite emotional when I see the children about to leave to their next school.”
Terry Russell, of the Billingshurst Rotary, said: “After the presentation of the dictionaries the group of Rotarians were given the privilege of a guided tour around the school conducted by two of the pupils- Harry Smith aged 11 years and Archie Inkster aged 10 years.
“Both boys gave an interesting and confident explanation of the layout of the school of which they were justifiably proud.“
