THE SUSSEX Mushrooms development of 146 homes in Thakeham is coming under fresh scrutiny.
The plans are in doubt after many have questioned if the homes are needed.
Initially the money from the development and modernisation of the farm were to save jobs, however, with a new financially secure company behind them some have argued this is not needed.
As reported in the County Times on August 4, a statement said that ‘the assets and contracts had been transferred to a new company, Thakeham Mushrooms Limited, owned by Monaghan Mushrooms,’ meaning 400 jobs had been saved.
A spokesperson from Horsham District Council commented that the recent acquisition by Monaghan ‘has meant that the council needs to consider the changed circumstances before a final decision is made on the two planning applications’. The plans went before the council in April and were pending decision.
