Dawn Pond, 55, of Bognor Road, Warnham, pleaded guilty to three counts of false accounting at Hove Crown Court on Monday (September 15).

She had been employed by the Innes Memorial Trust since 1997 as a chiropodist and would visit care homes in Horsham and surrounding areas to work on behalf of the trust.

She falsely invoiced the trust for work completed while she was abroad on holiday on five occasions between May 2012 and July 2013.

Officers executed a search warrant in April 2013 at her house in Warnham and recovered £34,110.20 in cash which is part of a separate court hearing.

Pond received a nine month suspended sentence for two years and 140 hours of unpaid work. She was also ordered to pay £1,420 in compensation to the victim and court costs of £1,600.

Investigating officer, DC Caroline Harsley of the South East Regional Organised Crime Unit (SEROCU) said: “The defendant abused the trust of the charity as well as the elderly residents she treated and her only motive was one of greed.

“She was abroad while claiming to be working in areas such as Horsham, Crawley, Bramley and Wonersh Common in Surrey. I hope this brings closure to the victims who did not receive the service they expected.”
