Vandals smash car windows in South Downs villages

Police are appealing for witnesses after more than 50 vehicles were damaged by vandals in Pulborough, West Chiltington and Billingshurst over the past few days.

A police spokesman said: “Between 3am and 3.30am on Monday (May 4) more than a dozen vehicles were targeted in Spinney North, The Spinney, Aston Rise, New Road and Lower Street in Pulborough. Windows on the cars were smashed with rocks or stones.

“At about midnight on Tuesday (May 5) we were contacted again after a further spate of damage to vehicles in Pulborough, West Chiltington and Billingshurst.

“Extra patrols have been sent into the area to speak to residents and try to find anyone who saw anyone behaving suspiciously late at night.”

The County Times has also heard from a resident in Glebelands, Pulborough saying cars there were affected.

Sergeant Mark Miller said: “We need to speak to anyone who saw or heard anything suspicious at all in the early hours of Monday or Tuesday.

“No matter how insignificant you might think the information is, it could be vital to our investigation so please do not hesitate to get in touch.”
