TWO forensic teams have arrived at the house where a woman’s dead body was found earlier today.
A murder investigation was launched this afternoon after paramedics were called to Calluna, Nyetimber Lane in West Chiltington.
A senior Sussex Police detective has told the County Times that the victim was found dead in a bedroom.
DCI Trevor Bowles said: “There is blood throughout the house.”
He added that police did not know what the potential murder weapon might be at this stage.
A woman thought to be in her 60s, who has not been named, was found dead at the 6-bed property at around 2.40pm.
A unnamed man also thought to be in his 60s was injured and required medical attention.
He has been arrested on suspicion of her murder but remains in hospital.
Police have cordoned off the entire proptery which lies at the junction of Nyetimber Copse, a sleepy rural road in West Chiltington.
Eye-witnesses report that a Toyota Corolla remains parked on the drive inside the police cordon.
And a team of detectives are currently at the property as Sussex Police Major Crime Branch, soon to be shared with Surrey Police, swing in to action.
Two scientific support vehicles are parked at the scene and specialist forensic officers are preparing to enter the rented house.
Detective Chief Inspector Trevor Bowles from Sussex Police Major Crime Branch who is leading the investigation said: “Detectives are in the very early stages of this investigation and are conducting enquiries to establish the circumstances surrounding this tragic incident.”
