More than 20 drivers were stopped by police in Cowfold on Tuesday morning (August 18) as part of a road safety operation.

Operation Vanquish is targeted at raising awareness of unsafe driving.

Horsham police said 18 people were stopped for seatbelt offences, and two each for mobile phone offences and insurance offences.

A further person had a lighting defect on their vehicle, and one driver was reported to the DVLA for having incorrect details on their driving licence.

The DVSA also issued two people with immediate prohibitions on their vehicles for having defective tyres.

Officers will undertake Operation Vanquish in other areas in the Horsham district and Sussex throughout the course of the year.
