Police have cordoned off part of Horsham Park this afternoon (November 4) as they search for evidence to a suspected rape.

Officers have taped off and are searching a wooded area to the north west of the park near the junction with Parkfield.

A representative of Sussex Police said: “Police are investigating a woman who was raped in Horsham Park on Tuesday, October 28 at around 11am.”

She added the alleged victim, a woman in her early 40s from Horsham, reported it on Monday (November 3).

“She had been in town when she met a man she knows and went to Horsham Park with him. He then forced her to have sex near to the North Parade end of the park.”

DS Laura Diamond said: “The victim describes the man as white, between 40 and 50-years-old with grey hair and stubble. He is medium build, about 5’ 6” and wearing a green coat.

“We are appealing to anyone who might have seen a woman in the area last Tuesday looking distressed. This is not random but the victim is extremely distressed by what has happened and we are giving her specialist support.

“Anyone who has any information or saw something which could help us with our investigation, please contact us on 101 or email 101@sussex.pnn.police.uk quoting serial 1326 of 3/11. Alternatively contact the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
