Police chase after theft in Rudgwick

A man was arrested after stealing a catalytic convertor from a parked van in Rudgwick in the early hours of this morning (Tuesday July 29).

Police pursued the offender and arrested him after he was found hiding under a horse box at a farm in Balcombe.

The catalytic convertor was stolen at about 2.10am from Cape Copse.

The owner saw a vehicle leave the scene and police pursued it at various speeds.

The driver failed to stop when requested by police. It was eventually abandoned in Farm Lane, Balcombe.

The driver was arrested on suspicion of theft of the convertor, theft of the car he was driving, dangerous driving, and failing to stop for police.

The 23-year old man is currently in custody for interview and further enquiries.
