An investigation has been launched after reports that two men jumped out of a car and attacked another man with a baseball bat and a golf club in Horsham, police said.

Officers said the 33-year-old was walking along Guildford Road when a silver Mercedes-Benz car pulled up alongside him near the junction of Blackbridge Lane at about 3.50pm on Saturday (October 1).

A spokesman for Sussex Police said two men jumped out of the vehicle and attacked him before driving off.

The man suffered cuts to his head for which he was treated at the East Surrey Hospital, Redhill, the spokesman added.

Police cordoned off the scene and completed house-to-house enquiries in the area.

Officers are still investigating.
