Horsham motorcyclist in Brighton crash

Emergency services were called at 4.06pm to a two vehicle collision and whilst in the process of dealing with this collision, two more collisions happened in the slow moving traffic approaching the scene of the first incident.

The initial collision involved a Peugeot 406 driven by a 49-year-old woman from Haywards Heath and a Mercedes driven by a 37-year-old man from Brighton. They were uninjured.

The second involved a red Ducati motorcycle being ridden by a 44-year-old man from Brighton and five vehicles. The rider suffered serious but not life threatening injuries. He was taken to the Royal Sussex County Hospital, Brighton, where he is in a stable condition.

The vehicles involved included a Ford Focus, a Vauxhall Meriva, a Mercedes and a Honda Civic. Police are keen to speak to the occupants of a silver Rover 75 identified as being at the scene in the early stages, who may have witnessed this incident.

The third collision was between a green Kawasaki motorcycle and a yellow Honda motorcycle who in the process of slowing down as they approached the scene collided. The Kawasaki motorcyclist, a man aged 32 from Horley, and the Honda motorcyclist, a 34-year-old man from Horsham, both suffered minor injuries.

The A27 was closed for four hours to enable medical assistance, investigation work, recovery of vehicles, and assessment of damage to the central reservation barriers. Police would like to thank members of the public for their patience during the road closure.
