Horsham driver banned for having cocktail of drugs in his system

A 22-year-old Horsham man has been banned from the roads after he was caught driving with ketamine, diazepam and cannabis in his system, according to police.

A Sussex Police statement says that police officers stopped the Ford Transit of Benjamin Martill at 12.30am on June 5 after they saw the vehicle moving across the carriageway in Brighton Road, Horsham.

The statement adds that Martill, of Saxon Crescent, Horsham, pleaded guilty to driving while unfit through drugs when he appeared at Chichester Magistrates’ Court on March 25. He was banned from driving for 18 months, fined £165 and ordered to pay £540 costs and a £20 victim surcharge.

A month-long campaign was run in June as part of Operation Dragonfly, the force’s crackdown on drink and drug drivers.

Of the 119 people to have been charged as part of the campaign, 110 have been convicted of offences so far. The remaining nine are still being dealt with by the courts.
