Police are appealing for witnesses after a suspected distraction burglary in Horsham on Saturday August 17 afternoon.

A 92-year-old woman spoke to a man outside her home in Bishopric between 2.30pm and 3pm and asked him if he was from the water board, he agreed and answered some questions about a meter outside her home.

He then asked to come into the flat to test her kitchen taps. After he had left she found her bank books were missing.

DC Kai Murray said: “This woman is elderly and very vulnerable and it seems this has been taken advantage of.

“Please always remember to always ask for ID from anyone who claims to be from a company and anyone who is reputable won’t mind waiting while you check. Don’t let someone into your home unless you have seen official ID detailing who they work for.

“This man is described as being 5’ 8”, larger build, around 30, short dark hair, clean shaven and wearing a bright red top and dark trousers. Did you see this man in the area? If you have information or see anything suspicious, please contact police on 101 quoting serial 1175 of 17/8.”
