In a statement on the school’s website headteacher Sarah Park said police were attempting to detain a group of potential suspects following an incident in the area.

She said: “Thank you to parents for your co-operation & patience at the end of school today and apologies for any inconvenience caused.

“The police were looking for a group of men involved in an incident in the local area. A group of potential suspects had been identified and in an attempt to detain the suspects, with the minimum amount of disturbance to the school community, we were advised to keep children and parents inside the building until the situation had been resolved.

“Thank you once again for co-operation and understanding.”
