Bomb disposal unit called after ‘suspicious’ object found in Faygate

A bomb disposal unit was called to Faygate this afternoon (Thursday March 19) after a ‘suspicious’ object was dug up.

Workers at a development site near Faygate Business Centre in Faygate Lane discovered the item just after 1pm.

A Sussex Police spokesperson said: “There is digging work going on there and a digger disturbed it. They were suspicious about what it was so they called police.

“It was four to five inches in diameter and rusty.”

The Explosive Ordnance Division arrived at the scene at 4pm and left at about 4.25pm, having dealt with the situation ‘very quickly’, the spokesperson added.

It is unknown if a controlled detonation took place.
