A thatched building at an educational centre in Ewhurst was destroyed in a suspected arson attack.
Surrey Police say the Sayers Croft Field Centre in Cranleigh Road, Ewhurst, was targetted between 8pm on Friday November 16 and 3.50pm on Sunday November 18.
The blaze caused more than £15,000 worth of damage, destroying the thatch and wooden structure and leaving only the clay walls standing.
The hut was built by volunteers at the site, which is owned and operated by a charitable trust.
Detective Dan Chant investigating said: “This appears to be a deliberate act of wanton vandalism which has completely destroyed part of the valuable estate of this educational centre. The house took hundreds of hours to build by volunteers and was an integral part of the operation. I would urge anyone who saw any vehicle or anyone acting suspiciously in the vicinity of the centre to call me as soon as possible. This type of offence not only destroys educational opportunities for the community, it is potentially extremely dangerous. Please share any details which could help bring those responsible to justice.”
