Sussex Police and Crime Commissioner Katy Bourne joined officers entering homes in Horsham, Pulborough and Storrington.

The guns were seized from an address in Horsham. They are thought to be BB guns, which are not lethal, although police believe one had been modified to increase damage.

The warrant was issued following community intelligence, and the occupant of the home willingly gave up the air guns, said police.

He was questioned by officers under the Mental Health Act.

Three teams of police officers simultaneously entered two properties in Storrington and another in Pulborough.

Police believed stolen goods may have been held at the addresses, after a spate of vehicle crime in the Storrington area in June, where power tools were stolen from a number of vehicles.

Officers seized a selection of power tools from one of the homes in Storrington, and were set to examine the tools this week to establish whether they were stolen.

A dog unit was also in attendance, but was not utilised.

No arrests were made.

The executed warrants took place as part of the first of a series of Sussex Police’s forcewide ‘All Out Days’.

Police across the county entered homes on Friday.

The initiative was designed to strengthen the resilience of the police force, aimed at ensuring the best possible response to the demands placed on the force by a critical incident.

Chief inspector Howard Hodges, Horsham district commander, said: “We have executed four separate warrants in the district, and as a result we have some suspected stolen property and recovered firearms, and taken potentially dangerous weapons off the streets.

“It was about officers pulling together for a common goal, which is to catch criminals, reduce crime and keep people safe.

“There will be further enquiries into those items to establish if they are stolen and ideally reunite them with their owners.”

PCC Bourne added: “It gets them out and being visible with the public, which is important and part of building public confidence.

“It is my job to give reassurance that people in Horsham are getting a high quality policing service, and this has been part of that.”
