In total, more than £40,000 of gold jewellery was taken, with cash also stolen from the home in Southwater.

Detective constable Jodie Palmer said: “In each case the intruders have smashed their way into the homes and have escaped with gold jewellery so we believe both could be linked.

“In each case the owners had left their home for a relatively brief period so it is possible the addresses were being watched by the people responsible.

“We need to speak to anyone who was in the area near any of the properties in the last few days who may have seen people acting suspiciously or the vehicles of strangers parked nearby.

“If you know anything at all, please contact us.”
