COUNTY NEWS: Police officer injured after a knife was thrown

Sussex police have confirmed an officer was injured by a knife which was thrown as she was responding to reports of an assault incident yesterday.

A spokesman said police were called for assistance to Bilsham Road, Yapton, West Sussex, at 3.26pm.

He added: “They were confronted by a man who threw a number of items at them, including wood, vases and house bricks. A female officer sustained a minor injury to her hand when she was hit by a large knife.

“The incident continued for more than half-an-hour and resulted in a number of road closures in the area while the situation was resolved.”

According to police a 33-year-old man from Yapton was arrested on suspicion of common assault, assaulting a designated or accredited person and affray, he remained in custody on Monday morning.
