Henfield Friends of St. Barnabas members celebrated winning BBC ‘Community Heroes’ award nominations on Saturday.
They gathered at Henfield Free Church for their annual fundraising ‘bangers and cash’ lunch for villagers which raised more than £200.
Chairman Carolyn Phillips said: “We are delighted to receive this recognition for the work we do for St. Barnabas.”
BBC Sussex and Surrey judges said: “We have been fuelled with the most reassuring thoughts of how many wonderful people we have in our part of the world.”
Sara David, BBC Sussex and Surrey editor, said: “This is a big thank-you from us to you on behalf of the entire community for being unsung heroes.”
The Henfield group, which raises funds for St. Barnabas hospice in Worthing, organises various fundraising events throughout the year, including carol singing, a Christmas craft event, street collections and a cricket match.
They are currently looking for more supporters, membership having dwindled to 12 from an original 24.
