Nominations are continuing to pour in for community heros from across the County Times area to receive one of our special awards.

Our readers have been putting forward their nominations for who they think deserves one of our Community Awards which recognises the best of our local community.

There are 16 categories in which to nominate – with the winners choosen by our readers.

The deadline for nominations is Monday, October 10 and the winners will be revealed on Monday, November 7 at the glitzy Community Awards ceremony at The Capitol theatre.

Categories include best community organisation, local hero, the good sport award and outstanding teacher. There is also a best neighbour award with the winner being someone who has a real sense of community spirit.

Last year’s Best Neighbour Award went to David Kirkwood and his wife Hazel after being nominated by neighbour Shirley Shea.

She wanted them to be recognised for their kindness when she moved to Coldwaltham two years ago.

Receiving the award on the awards night last November David said: “It’s very humbling. We are a couple who love our neighbours.

“We took to Mike and Shirley and when Mike passed away it’s made our role more interesting in supporting Shirley. We feel it’s part of our Christian ministry.”
