Continuing campaign for new hospital
BY NOW a copy of my spring 2009 'Report Back' should have landed on the door mats of every house in my Horsham parliamentary constituency. In fact, almost 45,000 have been sent out.
Those who have had a look at it will notice that I asked for feedback from readers and I have certainly received plenty! And I am pleased to say that responses have been very favourable.
The reason that I distribute a newsletter once or twice a year is to keep residents updated on what I've been up to both in Westminster and locally – after all, you have elected me to represent Horsham in parliament.
In this issue of Report Back, I have done things a little differently to normal. As well as reporting back, I tried to make it useful in other ways.
I included useful phone numbers, a feature on what happens at my advice surgeries and information about how to book an appointment or arrange for me to visit you at home, facts about the constituency and articles focusing on particular communities.
The reasoning behind focusing on specific communities was to remind readers that although we are all part of the 'Horsham' parliamentary constituency, the patch actually covers some 176 square miles around the town of Horsham – stretching from Fittleworth in the south-west to Crawley Down in the north-east.
As usual I also used Report Back to update readers on the campaign for a new hospital for Horsham and Crawley – I doubt it will surprise anyone that this continues to be the most significant issue locally.
I intend to keep pressing on with the campaign until we achieve the new hospital that local people so desperately need and deserve.
What will change across the issues are the visits that I inform readers about and so, with that in mind, I'd like to remind County Times readers that I'm always very pleased to visit local businesses and community groups. It is absolutely the best way to understand the issues that are affecting people in the Horsham area.
In fact, it's often the case that after a visit to say, Queen Victoria Hospital or Horsham Fire Station, I end up reporting what I have learnt back to my colleagues in the Shadow Cabinet! So, if any readers would like to arrange a visit, please don't hesitate to contact my House of Commons office on 0207 219 2494.
