Cash help offer for fountain
THE DEBATE over the future of Horsham's controversial Shelley Fountain took a dramatic twist this week after brewer Hall and Woodhouse offered to help pay for whatever solution County Times' readers supported.
Last month, Horsham District Council said it was considering three options for the love it or hate it iconic water feature after it faced a massive repair bill for the hydraulics which lift the central globe up and allow it to unleash water into the pool below.
These were to fully repair the fountain; to retain the globe without hydraulics while keeping the water feature; to remove the Shelley Fountain completely.
Since then readers have responded in their hundreds with letters and postal and online votes giving their views.
Earlier in the week, Hall and Woodhouse – which owns more than 40 pubs in the Horsham area, with the Green Dragon's lair being number 12 The Bishopric, only a snort away from the broken landmark – stepped in with an offer of practical help.
