HORSHAM District Council has approved a sum of £15,000 to cover ‘advertising and costs’ for its leisure management contract renewal.
Council members backed the recommendation for the sum of cash for 2011/2012 to cover procurement costs.
A report to members said that the Pavilions in The Park, Broadbridge Heath Leisure Centre, Steyning Leisure and Billingshurst Leisure Centres were all currently managed on behalf of the council by DC Leisure Limited, under a contract due to expire in November 2012.
The reason for the recommendation was given as: “To ensure that a leisure management contract that achieves best value and maintains and enhances the quality of service delivery for residents and visitors to the leisure facilities is let by the due date of December 1 2012.”
Asked by Dr David Holmes (LDem, Horsham Park) why the extra £15,000 was needed Jonathan Chowen (Con, Cowfold, Shermanbury and West Grinstead), the council’s cabinet member for arts, heritage and leisure, said: “It’s basically for advertising and costs.”
In response to another question by Dr Holmes Mr Chowen confirmed a consultant was also involved.
Andrew Dunlop (Con, Cowfold, Shermanbury and West Grinstead) added: “I think we have some fantastic leisure assets in this district and I think this re-tender is a very important re-tender.”
