Southern Housing Group has moved to reassure residents of Evelyn Lancaster House in Horsham that the home will not close until alternative accommodation has been found for them.

It follows concern that the closure had been brought forward.

But the group vigorously dismissed this.

A spokesperson said: “Southern Housing Group is not bringing forward the closing date of Evelyn Lancaster House.

“As has been the case from the beginning, we are working with all the residents to find the most appropriate alternative accommodation for their care needs.”

The spokesperson added: “We are prepared to take as long as is needed to do this and continue to meet with residents and their families regularly to discuss their options.”

Last month this newspaper reported that Southern Housing Group has plans to completely refurbish the building off North Heath Lane - forcing its 21 residents to vacate their homes.

The group could not confirm whether or not the building will re-open as a the same or similar care scheme.
