Campaigners march against landfill site

CAMPAINGERS will be marching tomorrow (Saturday September 12) to show their opposition for a landfill site at Laybrook.

Thakeham Youngsters Hana (ten) and Oscar (12) created a banner displaying their slogan, making the message loud and clear.

They will be heading the parade tomorrow which starts at 12pm at the Ashington roundabout at the top of Billingshurst Road and finishes at Ibstock Brickworks in Goosegreen Lane.

But organisers say the tots of Thakeham's Jiminy Cricket Nursery were close second after they used hundreds of scraps of shiny sweet and crisp wrappers to spell out 'No Local Landfill' on their colourful six foot banner.

Thakeham Village Action (TVA) is urging everyone who opposes the landfill plans to join the parade.

Walkers, cyclists, horses and alpacas will be taking part and the parade will also feature vintage cars and a vintage open-top bus.

Live music is being provided by Thakeham's Sirens which will keep the walkers' toes tapping from Ashington to Laybrook.

At the end of the parade at Peacocks Lane, local MPs Francis Maude and Nick Herbert will voice their reasons for opposing the plan.
