An international coffee chain has withdrawn its application to open a new store in Horsham.

Starbucks had submitted plans to change the use of the empty unit previously home to the Phone Clinic, next to Poundland in West Street, from retail into a cafe.

The proposals would have seen a new coffee shop built with indoor seating as well as 14 outdoor tables.

However the company has since withdrawn its application and work has begun to bring in a new retailer at the site.

Signs have gone up in the store announcing carpet and flooring specialists Tapi will be taking over the unit.

An application has also been submitted by the retailer to change the sign frontage.

Starbucks used to run a store in the high street but it closed in October 2012.

In August the chain was advertising for jobs in the town on its website.

Starbucks has been approached for comment.
