The County Times is to bring back its Wine and Dine section - giving the district’s restaurants a chance to showcase menus and special offers.
The decision to bring back Wine and Dine was prompted by the way in which Horsham’s restaurant scene has been revived in recent years.
The County Times will promote the section, both to support local businesses and to strengthen its own links with the community.
Wabi restaurant in East Street provided a suitably classy setting for the launch announcement last week. Guests from the pub and restaurant trade gathered to hear more.
West Sussex County Times Editor In Chief Gary Shipton said the newspaper was delighted to be launching a new wine and dine section.
“The Horsham area has a wonderful selection of restaurants, pubs and inns - and in recent years has raised the standard even further,” he said.
“East Street has been transformed into the town’s dining quarter, and the arrival of restaurants like Wabi has represented an enormous investment in the town and district.
“The new wine and dine section will give restaurants the perfect platform to present their menus along with competitions and special reader offers and will be an indispensible guide for readers when deciding where to eat out.”
The event was organised by marketing company Hexiweb, which will sponsor the Wine and Dine section.
Hexiweb managing director Martin Lock welcomed everybody to Wabi.
He invited companies not only to make use of the County Times to promote their business but also to take advantage of Hexiweb’s online expertise.
Mr Lock said Wabi was an excellent example of how Hexi-web could help a good company to thrive in the current financial climate.
“What we managed to do is start filling up the mid-weeks as well as the weekends,” he said.
“I think, in common with most of you, weekends take care of themselves.”
Weekend trade is easy to come by, he explained, but filling up a restaurant on weekday evenings or lunchtimes can be much more difficult.
He said websites, social media, emails and text messages can be used not just to help the business in general, but to advertise specific offers, promotions and discounts.
