Two Horsham Central Sussex College construction students were among those scooping the top spots at this year’s Skillbuild Southern regional heat.
The construction department is brimming with pride for their fourth consecutive win at the largest construction competition in the country which took place at Sussex Coast College last month.
Starting at 6.30am the students endured a gruelling six hours to complete their assignment, only stopping for a half-hour break.
Charlie Barber, 18, from Horsham took first place in the senior joinery category and Ryan Maddison, 19, from Horsham, was awarded second in the senior carpentry category.
Jeremy Ridley, head of studies at Central Sussex College in Crawley, said: “The guys were a credit to themselves and the College in their approach to the competition, with impeccable behaviour and manners whilst producing exceptional quality work.”
Subject to overall scores nationally, the students will have the chance to compete in the national finals of the competition taking place at the Skills Show, NEC Birmingham in November.
