A leading local funeral directors is urging people to talk to their families if they take out a pre-paid funeral plan as the number of unused funeral plans sharply rises.
Ballard & Shortall has explained pre-paid funeral plans allow someone to cover the cost of their own funeral at today’s prices, as well as registering their own preferences for the arrangements.
However there have been more instances recently where relatives have begun organising their own arrangements only to discover a pre-paid funeral plan has already been made, meaning they end up paying a second time for arrangements.
Paul Shortall, principal funeral director, said: “It can be quite hard talking about the subject of your own funeral with friends and family, so we understand how this situation can occur.”
