Ali Senussi was originally convicted at Lewes Crown Court in October 2015 after he kidnapped a woman from Cameo nightclub in Langney Road with the intention of sexually assaulting her.

The 21-year-old man was sentenced to a total of two years’ imprisonment.

Solicitor General Robert Buckland QC MP referred that sentence to the Court of Appeal under the Unduly Lenient Sentence scheme, arguing that the original sentence should be replaced with a longer term.

After today’s decision he said, “Given the nature of these offences, I submitted that the original sentence which was passed was insufficient.

“It failed to adequately reflect Senussi’s intentions and the impact this crime had on its victim.

“I’m pleased the sentence has increased to take into account the gravity of his offences.”
