The Billingshurst Women’s Institute celebrated Eve McHugh’s 100th Birthday by giving a tea party for Eve and three other members who have recently had significant birthdays.

The members were treated to homemade sandwiches, sausage rolls and a delicious chocolate birthday cake in the shape of 100 made by Susie Evershed- one of the members.

Eve has been a member of the Women’s Institute since moving to Billingshurst 23 years ago.

She was born in Leatherhead and trained to be a children’s nanny in South London.

She got married in 1936 and raised two children. She is now a proud grandmother of 4 and a great-grandmother of 2.

At her birthday party in Newbury, where her daughter lives, her youngest great-grandchild aged 5 sang a solo entitled “Grandma”. Each of Eve’s four grandchildren presented her with twenty five yellow roses.
