The award winning Billingshurst Primary School Eco Bag - a ‘green’ partnership with Kavanagh’s Budgens and the school has so far raised over £1,000 from the sale of the bags at school and in the supermarket.
Kavanagh’s Budgens paid for the production of the bags and then sold them at the Billingshurst store to help increase the sale of the bags in the local community. The customers have been really supportive of the project and the bags have now sold out at the store.
The bags retailed at £2 each and 100% of the money went back to the school. Noel Kavanagh, owner of Kavanagh’s Budgens and Morgan Rees, Store Manager, were delighted to present the school with a cheque for £600 from the sale of the bags at the Billingshurst store.
Noel Kavanagh said; “We like to be actively involved with our local community and it’s great to be able to support Billingshurst Primary School in so many exciting projects. We look forward to continuing our successful partnership and further developing our relationship.”
The award winning Eco bag has so far won two awards including the County Times Friend of the Environment Community Award as well as the PTA UK Gold Star Award for Working with the Local Community. The award winning bags are still available from the school at £2 each. All the profits from the sale of bags will be used towards The Outdoor Project which focuses on enhancing the children’s outdoor learning experiences.
Helen Williamson, Headteacher said; “It is wonderful to have such a successful relationship with a local business, Kavanagh’s Budgens have been really supportive of the projects that the school has undertaken and we look forward to working with them on other activities in the future.”
This fantastic eco project marks the start of a successful relationship between the school and Kavanagh’s Budgens. This year Kavanagh’s Budgens will be supporting the school with the launch of a second recipe book which will contain many new tasty family dishes.
