Loxwood manager Mark Beard was left bitterly disappointed after his side crashed out of the FA Vase away to Colliers Wood United.

They lost their second round clash at West Wimbledon-based Combined Counties League Premier Division side 2-0.

A victory for The Magpies would have seen them make club history as they have never made it to the third round of this competition.

The hosts took the lead after 19 minutes from the penalty spot after Lewis Scally gave away a spot kick.

But Loxwood’s poor start went from bad to worse in a matter of moments after Colliers Wood doubled their lead six minutes later.

It came from a long ball which their speedy striker latched onto, giving Beard’s side a hill to climb.

At half-time he had the opportunity to get into his players which saw a reaction from his team but their efforts seemed too little too late.

Despite approaching the second-half with an attacking mentality, they could not find a breakthrough and were prone to getting caught on the counter attack and had goalkeeper Sam Smith to thank for a number of smart stops.

Beard said:“I was very frustrated, we were 2-0 down early on and then you could see our heads drop.

“We had been in good form recently but it was as if we had to work hard to get back into the game and we were out of it early on. After half-time we had a good go at them but their goalkeeper made three to five quality saves.

“Frustratingly it was a great chance for us, in a brilliant cup and they were beatable opponents, but they deserved the win. I am 100 per cent confident we will bounce back from this and it was encouraging our players responded in the second half but it was too late.”

Loxwood: Smith, Holvey, Courtney, French, Scalley, Caves, Bachelor, Wood, Summerfield (Swaine), S.Beard, Pitcher. Unused: Jee, Pritchard.
