Radio Weald, the radio station of the Weald School, Billingshurst, was chosen for an award at this year’s Arqiva Schools Radio Station of the year competition.
Five of the team were invited to attend the award ceremony at the House of Commons where they were congratulated by a variety of broadcasters and ministers on the terrace overlooking the River Thames and the London Eye.
They interviewed broadcasting legend Paul Gambaccini about his career, which coincidentally began with student radio.
Nicholas Parsons, from Radio 4’s Just a Minute show, recorded a special Radio Weald message for the students.
These recordings wwere played as part of the week-long broadcast from July 16 20 as part of their end of term, world record breaking attempt, 100 hours of consecutive broadcasting.
