Horsham Boxing Club coach Dan Purchase says their fighters are looking forward to showcasing their talents at their annual show on Saturday night.

The club’s yearly event returns to the Holbrook Club with upwards of 12 bouts expected during the knockout show.

Those 12 matches will be contested between Horsham boxers with a number of other cross matches from other clubs.

Purchase has said they can’t wait to hear the first bell at North Heath Lane venue and the evening is imperative for their future.

He said: “We are really looking forward to it. Personally, I can’t wait until all the weighing-in and setting up is done and we’re under way.

“It’s a chance to see how our boxers, especially the new ones, are doing and showcase their talents to the community.

“The club is a big part of my life. All the trainers put in time and effort and the result really is this show – although it’s important for us to get our boxers competing all season and all over the south and indeed the UK.

“For the boxers, it becomes a way of life when in full dedicated training. Foregoing nights out with mates is standard and watching weight and keeping fitness levels at peak is important. The club really does become a like a second family unit for many.”

The club currently has around 30 active members ranging from eight years old to seniors at the age of 30.

All proceeds raised from the spectacle – which starts at 7pm – go back into to the club and without them, they would not survive.

Purchase added: “Samantha McCelland is our former national finalist so I am hoping her bout is high on skill and action.

“There are a number of new boxers, I am looking forward to see Harry Mattock, a heavyweight, who I believe has a good natural talent.

“Also Max Cole, coach Lee’s son, has his first proper bout as he’s reached 11 years old and his previous seven have been skills bouts with no winner declared. That will be good to watch.”

Purchase’s message to anyone considering going is simple: “Just to come along and enjoy the show.

“It’s always great entertainment and we appreciate the support from all areas. Be it family coming to cheer on one boxer or a fan of the sport in general, come to see the skills on show.”

Tickets are £15 in advance and can be brought via the Holbrook Club on 01403 751150 or Purchase on
