Travelling will naturally be at the top of the agenda for many parents this summer, and this may include opportunities to talk to the locals in their own language, whether it is checking in at the hotel, drinking in the bar, ordering food in cafés and restaurants or shopping in the market.
For all these scenarios you need the right vocabulary and the right phrases, and some confidence to pull it all off!
So if you would like to not have to rely on your children or someone else in the group this year, there is a unique and exciting adult education opportunity in languages taking place at Farlington in July and August.
The ‘Get by in…’ series by David Walker-Smith is available in Spanish, French and Italian and is designed around the needs of adult learners when on holiday. The courses consist of 10 hours of tuition and there are two formats to choose from: five 2-hour sessions Monday to Friday in the holidays or two 5-hours sessions over two consecutive Saturdays or Sundays.
Spanish 1: 19 and 26 July, 10am-4.15pm
Spanish 2: 21-25 July, 10.15am-12.30pm
Spanish 3: 28 July-1 August, 1.15pm-3.30pm
French 1: 21-25 July, 1.15pm-3.30pm
French 2: 16 & 23 August, 10am-4.15pm
Italian 1: 28 July-1 August, 10.15am-12.30pm
Italian 2: 17-24 August, 10am-4.15pm
“I am delighted to launch these courses at Farlington,” said Mr Walker-Smith, “not least because parents tell me so many times that they wish they had the opportunity to learn languages when they were at school in the fun way they are learned these days. The courses will be relevant, entertaining and are suitable for complete beginners or those with just a few words or phrases.”
So whether you would like to brush up an old language or experiment with a new one, contact MFLteaching@aol.com for more details, including dates and a registration form. These courses are open to the public and course fees are £100 per learner.
