The New Horizons Appeal Lunch Club, in aid of St Catherine’s Hospice, members had an added bonus during their fundraising ‘Late Lunch at the Palace’.

The lunch raised £375 for the hospice appeal thanks to all that attended.

Members travelled from Sussex to the palace on the day of the Olympic Parade and were inside, exploring the treasures of the palace when all was happening outside.

“It was very special, to be able to see parts of the palace that you have seen during the TV coverage of the royal wedding was just wonderful,’’ said Barbara Bukin, lunch club member from Warnham.

The lunch included a private tour of Buckingham Palace gardens and just by chance as members stood in the rose garden the official Olympic flypast went over their heads with the Red Arrows very clear with the red, white and blue smoke trailing behind.

“It was simply wonderful and we all started to applaud as the Red Arrows flew overhead,’’ said Barbara.

The next lunch is at the House of Commons on October 25, to be hosted by Cabinet member and Horsham MP, Francis Maude. He will be joined by guest speaker Claire Perry, MP for Devizes.
