THE MAJOR power cut in Horsham yesterday afternoon (Tuesday February 12) was caused by a fault at a local substation, EDF Energy has confirmed.

The company said 1,400 customers were affected by the blackout.

The wide-scale power failure hit shops and homes in West Street, Worthing Road, Blackhorse Way and The Bishopric, at around 2pm a spokesperson told the County Times this morning (Wednesday February 13).

EDF Energy engineers managed to restore supplies to about a third of the customers by 3.12pm and supplies to the remaining 782 customers were reconnected between 3.46pm and 4.05pm.

The spokesperson said: "We apologise to customers for any inconvenience this caused."
