FRIENDS and neighbours have today paid tribute to Rhona Heywood, the Horsham woman believed to be the victim of a suspected murder in the town on Saturday.
Sussex Police said formal identification had not taken place after officers found the body of a woman at a Needles Estate flat in Godwin Court, Jockey Mead, shortly before midnight on Saturday (March 22).

But residents on the scene have this morning (Monday March 24) spoken of their horror at the death of Rhona, an elderly woman who was well-loved by the local community.

A man has been arrested on suspicion of murder.

If you would like to leave your own tribute, register your comment in the section below.

Home carer Bea Surch left her message of condolence on this website.

She said: "Rhona fought illness for many years and battled to save her independence.

"I only knew Rhona for 18 months and although set in her ways, she was one of the most kind caring people I have ever known.

"Her two cats that she rescued were her life and treated like princes.

"She will be sorely missed."

A friend, who asked not be named, said Rhona was a kind woman who had been like a mother to her son when he was her neighbour.

"I can't understand how this could happen to somebody like Rhona," she said.

"She wouldn't hurt a fly.

"It makes you feel sick."

why someone would want to take such a brilliant and kind hearted person away from us all i will never get my head around, especially after regaining her indepence after months and months of being moved from hospital to hospital. What i do know is that my nan lived life to the max and wouldn't have it any other way no matter who told her and that her family, friends and her cats were who she lived for which will never be forgotten.so sleep tight nan you are in a better place now. xxx

This is just unbelievable and shocking
I find it sickening that any human being can do something like this to another human being its horrifying. I only hope justice will be done.
My Aunty Rhona will certainly be sadly missed but her memory will live on in all our hearts GODBLESS XXXX
