HORSHAM MP Francis Maude will call for increased police patrols to calm the fears of residents on the Needles Estate as the investigation into a suspected murder continues.

To hear an audio interview with Mr Maude click on the link on this page.

Mr Maude will hold talks with Sussex Police to discuss how people's safety concerns can be eased after officers found the body of a woman in a flat in the housing estate on Saturday night (March 22).

He said the people of Horsham were shocked by the 'appalling' news and everybody would want to know exactly what happened.

Police have charged a Horsham man with murder.

Mr Maude has assured residents that he will also speak to Horsham District Council about what can be done to put residents' minds at rest.

He said he would discuss whether a stronger police officer presence could help.

"All of our thoughts and prayers are with the family at this terrible time," he said.

"Everybody will have been incredibly shocked by this.

"We will all want to know exactly what happened and obviously there are concerns from people in the local area about safety.

"I will be talking to the council and the police about whether a stronger police presence could help."
