EIGHTY firefighters battled for hours against a massive blaze last night.

Flames consumed cars and welding gear as they shot through the roof of a vehicle workshop on an industrial estate opposite the old cement works near Upper Beeding.

A stretch of the A283 was closed for three hours as crews from Steyning, Worthing, Shoreham, Lancing and Hove battled the blaze.

Firemen were still at the site this morning investigating the cause.
