NEIGHBOURS have described the 'terrifying' moment they were told police had found the body of a man in a Billingshurst home.

Officers broke into the house in Bridgewater Close at around 2pm today (Tuesday March 25) after they were called by a concerned friend.

They found the body of a man in his 50s.

Mum of two Clare Francis, 28, of Bridgewater Close, said: "There were forensics and police officers.

"It's terrifying.

"It says a lot about the place where you live.

"I've got kids so I was obviously very scared."

University student Peter Whitworth, 19, said: "You don't expect that to happen in your street.

"I was shocked."

Next door neighbour Mick Squibb, 51, a full time carer, said: "I just can't believe.

"It's very shocking.

"They said there were five police officers round here earlier."

Police have not revealed the identity of the dead man.

A Sussex Police spokesperson said they were not treating his death as suspicious.

Deceased Man's Niece - Sharon,

Brighton 26/03/2008 21:23:35
After watching the above interviews i feel physically sick, how these people presume that this incident posed a threat to surrounding community, purely based on the fact the police were on the scene ! As for the above quote "It says a lot about where you live ",does it now ? I feel that these wouldn't of been the comments on the street, if it had been a 75 yr old man who died in his sleep. My uncle was a loving, kind and gentle man whose death is going to leave a huge whole in mine and his family and friends lives. So please people, bare this in mind when making your comments.
****Uncle: Miss you always, all my love Sharon x *****

i am vey angry with the comments made by one of the residents of the close she has not lived here very long and has made no effort to get to know her neighbours, bridgewater close is a nice quiet place to live there is no trouble, this poor man was a lovely guy who always said hi when you pasted him he would always say hello to the children of the close. my thoughts are with the family, he will be missed by alot of the residents of the close.

Many shops remain open on Bank Holiday Mondays. Do you think:
They should be open
They should all close
It should be the decision of individual shops
