Man arrested after handgun incident
Armed police officers boarded and searched a train after a passenger was reported to have been spotted with a handgun.
Passengers were taken off the train when it was brought back to East Grinstead Railway Station after a member of the public raised the alarm at about 7.15am today.
Rail users were moved away from the platform and into the station car park while the search was carried out.
Chief Supt Nick Wilkinson, who led the operation, said that no threats had been made to any members of the public.
He added: "Public safety was paramount throughout the operation. Whilst we apologise to anyone who was inconvenienced or whose journey was delayed, I am pleased that we were able to achieve a speedy and a safe resolution to the incident."
One man has been arrested in connection to the incident and an imitation firearm was recovered.
