Horse stabled in cricket pavilion

IT'S just not cricket having a horse in your changing rooms before a big match.

Staff at Great Walstead School in Lindfield had a flurry of phone calls when a horse was loose on East Mascalls Lane.

Pausing only to phone the police, they and the school's maintenance staff confronted the animal on the sportsfield where Penny Kidd, armed with a dog lead and something in her pocket that rattled, managed to bring it in.

The intrepid team then commandeered the cricket pavilion, pinched a few apples from the school kitchen, grabbed an armful of hay from under the nose of the school's rabbit, filled a bucket of water and temporarily stabled the horse in the cricket pavilion until its owner appeared.
