A PROJECT to brighten up 320m of roadside verge will get underway in Thakeham next week.
The Greening Thakeham committee wants to see the stretch of Woodlands Way planted with wildflowers and grasses.
They hope that making the path more attractive will encourage people to use it instead of driving to and from The Street - the part of the village where the church, pub and first school are all to be found.
To get the whole community involved, people are being invited to sponsor sections of the verge at a cost of £2.50 per metre.
An official planting day is being held from 10am to 3pm on Easter Monday.
Seeds and refreshments will be provided but people should bring their own tools.
All sponsors will be accredited on posters at each end of the path.
To sponsor a metre or more, contact Fiona McConnachie at firstname.lastname@example.org.
The wildflower project is part of Greening Thakeham’s contribution to the Royal Horticultural Society’s wildflower campaign for the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee.
