A very unfortunate incident reported in detail in the County Times. The report is purely from the meeting, so the Vicar doesn’t get a chance to put his side - something that wouldn’t happen today.

“The Horsham Burial District Joint Committee Clerk reported that on a recent occasion notice was sent to the Vicar of a funeral of a child to take place at the Hills Cemetery, but that when the time fixed, the funeral party arrived at the Cemetery, there was no minister in attendance.

“After waiting for some time the undertaker went to find another clergyman... It appeared that the Rev XXXX, who had arranged to attend, had entirely forgotten about the funeral. The Clerk added that this was not the first time the Rev XXX had entirely forgotten about a funeral.”
