Dramatic traffic accident at Southwater.

“At about 8.50 on Wednesday night an unfortunate trap accident happened on the Worthing Road.

“Mr and Mrs H. Dowding, of Warnham were driving in a two wheel spring cart from Warnham to Southwater and when about fifty yards on the north side of the entrance to the cricket ground the horse shied at a barrow standing on the grass by the side of the road.

“The animal turned so suddenly as to completely overturn the trap, the occupants being underneath.

“Passers-by quickly released them and they were taken to the North Street surgery and attended by Mr M.H.H. Vernon. Mr Dowding was practically uninjured and Mrs Dowding escaped with slight cuts and a bad shaking, but their child, aged about three, was severely cut about the face.
